Description
Forklift Tilt Hydraulic Cylinder — Application and Design Overview
The tilt hydraulic cylinder on a counterbalance forklift controls the forward and backward angle of the mast assembly relative to the chassis. When the operator tilts the mast forward to pick up a load at floor level or tilts it back to carry the load securely, it is this double-acting hydraulic cylinder that executes the motion. The cylinder must hold its position under full mast load when the control valve is in neutral — any internal bypass causes the mast to drift forward, a safety hazard in any warehouse or dock environment. Hangzhou Ever-Power’s forklift tilt cylinder is built and tested to eliminate bypass drift within the rated operating pressure range.

Construction and Material Standards
Cylinder Barrel
Cold-drawn seamless steel tube, internally honed to Ra 0.4–0.8 µm. The bore finish is critical to piston seal life — rougher bore surfaces generate micro-abrasion on the seal face during each cycle, advancing the onset of internal leakage. Precision honing delivers consistent seal contact across the full stroke.

Piston Rod
Hard chrome plated and ground after plating to maintain dimensional accuracy. Chrome thickness is monitored in-process; the ground finish removes plating peaks that would otherwise score the rod seal on initial strokes. The rod is straightness-verified before gland assembly to ensure concentricity with the barrel bore.
Seal Package
A composite seal kit — polyurethane piston seal, PTFE-backed rod seal, and nitrile rod wiper — handles the pressure, temperature, and contamination conditions of forklift service. The rod wiper is particularly important in warehouse environments where floor dust and debris are swept up by the rod on retraction.

Why the Tilt Cylinder Is Safety-Critical
Unlike the lift cylinder, which is typically a single-acting unit relying on load gravity for retraction, the tilt cylinder is double-acting and must maintain position under load in both the extended and retracted directions. A piston seal that allows internal bypass under load causes the mast to creep forward — bringing the forks down — even with the valve closed. Each Ever-Power tilt cylinder undergoes a static load-hold test at 1.5× rated working pressure in both extension and retraction directions before acceptance. Only cylinders with zero drift during the hold period are shipped.

Performance Advantages
Static hold tested at 1.5× working pressure in both directions. Eliminates mast creep that causes load drop incidents.
Ra 0.4–0.8 µm finish extends piston seal service life and reduces internal bypass risk across the cylinder’s working life.
Hard chrome plating resists the abrasion and corrosion from warehouse floor environments and cleaning chemicals.
Bore, stroke, and mounting dimensions available to match Toyota, Linde, Hyster, Crown, and other major forklift brands on request.
Ordering and Customization
To match an OEM tilt cylinder, provide: forklift brand and model, mast type (simplex/duplex/triplex), existing cylinder bore and rod diameter, stroke, and pin-to-pin installation distance. Our engineering team cross-references dimensions and proposes a matching specification within 24 hours. Custom port locations, cushion options, and surface treatment upgrades (epoxy, zinc plating) are available for OEM programs.
