Description
Double-Acting Forklift Hydraulic Cylinder — Two-Way Actuation
A two-way (double-acting) forklift hydraulic cylinder applies hydraulic force in both extension and retraction directions — it does not rely on gravity or spring return for the reverse stroke. This makes it mandatory for functions where the cylinder must push and pull against mechanical resistance in both directions: tilt cylinders, attachment actuators, reach mast cylinders, and fork positioner cylinders all require double-acting operation. This OEM-specification cylinder is produced with a close-tolerance bore and rod, balanced seal package, and port configuration that matches the hydraulic circuit requirements of the original machine design.

Specifications
| Parameter | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Double-acting | Two ports, bi-directional hydraulic force |
| Application | Tilt, attachment, reach, multi-function | Any application requiring powered retraction |
| Force Balance | Specify bore and rod for required extend/retract ratio | Optimised per application |
| Ports | Two ports — extend and retract sides | Port location to match OEM circuit |
| Construction | Welded body or tie-rod | Specify per OEM original design |
| Rod | Hard chrome, heavy build | High-contamination environments |
| OEM Match | Dimensional match to original equipment spec | First-article approval process |

When to Specify Double-Acting vs. Single-Acting
Always double-acting — the cylinder must push forward and pull back against the weight and inertia of the loaded mast.
Always double-acting — neither gravity nor spring can reliably return the carriage against a loaded pallet.
Always double-acting — pull stroke engages the slip sheet; push stroke ejects the load onto the rack or vehicle.
Typically single-acting — gravity lowers the load when the valve opens. Double-acting lift is used only in special high-speed lowering applications.
